Switched to WordPress…

…from Blogger, and trying out Ecto software. Blogger didn’t allow for photo uploads with third-party software, pain in the ass.

This is the way to go, for sure. Love the categories feature, and WordPress even imported my old blog entries from Blogger!

Illustrator Chris Bishop & the continual struggle to eliminate self-doubt

I was recently turned on to this illustrator Chris Bishop’s work by my friend Todd. Fun, chunky & bright colors.

This guy’s work was a nice helping hand for Todd as far as chiseling away the erroneous notion that your work “needs” to be “better” than what comes naturally and what you enjoy doing. We had a long discussion over some food the other night about this phenomenon that he & I both share. For years I struggled with the idea that the artwork I produced needed to be more than the fun cartoon stuff I love to create, something serious, something ‘heavy’.

Coghillustration.com

I recently registered coghillustration.com. I like the simplicity and informativeness (is that a word? Just checked, it is!) of the term/phrase. Need to do some Google research to find out how best to use this with the existing site. Don’t wanna ruin my existing search result placement.

Nothing really to see, it just goes to my existing site at www.georgecoghill.com.

Buy One, Get One Freemason

Cartoon Freemason character with fez & coin sketch
Just a quick doodle I did while I should have been doing something more productive, I’m sure. Maybe I just wanted to draw a fez. I can’t recall which came first - the fez or the “Eye in the Pyramid” coin.

This guy didn’t start out as a Freemason — I was just drawing up a weird guy and thought he had some weird thing going on with his gaze. Seemed like he’d be involved in some conspiracy — or at least some shenanigans.

Actually, I think the fez is technically a Shriner thing, not a Freemason thing. Freemasons wear that lambskin apron and carry a trowel and a compass & square around. Weird. I guess they are “masons” though.

Letter to the Editor published in Layers magazine…

Although you can’t view the letters online, my letter to the editor was published in the Jan/Feb 2006 issue of Layers magazine ( a very cool mag for Adobe software users/geeks), where I expose to the entire world that I don’t use the most current graphics software.

Rejected CafePress shirts

I guess these concepts/designs violated some sort of copyright thing.

The first, one of my corny pun t-shirt ideas, Fat Albert Einstein.

The design, with of course, “Hey Hey Hey! E=mc2“:

Next up, my Nike parody. Aren’t parodies covered under copyright law? I’m sure CafePress “reserves the right” blah blah blah…

For us lazy cynics out there, a proper alternative to the “Just Do It” slogan - “The Hell With It.”

It’s like a new sketchbook…

…intimidating, but exciting.

So what’s this all about? Well, it seems you almost HAVE to have a blog nowadays, at least for the next few months before something else gets popular. I guess it better than having to have a MySpace account. Can’t hurt in Google ranking either.

I’ll be posting some random artwork, mostly stuff not found on my cartoon illustration portfolio site, and hopefully this will contain all new artwork & sketches, like this cool zombie I need to finish:

I’m just setting this up, so that’s all for now.
