Sexy Cartoon School Girl Pin-Up - now avaialble at MyPSPTubes.com

Sexy schoolgirl pinup preview art A new sexy cartoon school girl pinup has recently been added to my slowly growing collection over at MyPSPTubes*. This one was fun to work on. I wanted to play on the classic fighter plane nose cone art where the girls were straddling a plane (or a bomb!). I thought the number two pencil was perfect. She was given glasses at one point for that sexy librarian look we all love, but it just didn’t work with the overall design. Review: Illustrator CS3 at Macworld

There’s a very positive review of Illustrator CS3 over at Macworld.

Of note is the reviewer’s love of the new zooming anchor points I am so much looking forward to:

When you pass the Direct Selection tool over a control point, the control point enlarges so that you can easily see and select it. While this may not sound like much, you’ll get accustomed to the change very quickly, and you’ll soon realize how helpful—even luxurious—it is. Of all the program’s new features, Illustrator CS3’s easier-to-see anchor-point highlighting is the one you’ll encounter most often, and it’s a great idea.

Once again, the anticipation is killing me, can’t wait to get my hands on AI CS3!

Tip: Free online backup for your artwork (and other important stuff too)

Mozy logoI just found this free online backup service, Mozy (via Lifehacker) and thought I would pass it along. I know most people don’t think about backups, and this is a pretty cool way to automatically backup stuff online (or “off site”). You get 2GB free, and an unlimited account is only $5/month. Mac & PC supported. Continue reading 'Tip: Free online backup for your artwork (and other important stuff too)'

Illustrator tip: Preserving transparency & effects on the clipboard (using copy/paste)

Ever find that you are trying to copy & paste ( or drag & drop) vector art from one Illustrator file to another, only to find all your transparency and other Appearance effects gone? I have to Google this every time it happens, so I thought I would make a post for it so I can look it up for myself, and help a few others along the way. Of course remembering this would be helpful, but I can’t count on that! Continue reading 'Illustrator tip: Preserving transparency & effects on the clipboard (using copy/paste)'

Odd Rods style scooter hot rod cartoon art at The Scooter Scoop

Odd Rods inspired scooter hot rod cartoon art

Hot-rod scooter cartoon mascot character.

Steve over at The Scooter Scoop commissioned me a few months back to create an original Odd Rods inspired cartoon illustration for his blog. He’s posted a kudo-laden entry about the Odd Rods style scooter monster hot rod cartoon art I did for him, and I appreciate it very much. Just wanted to return the favor and give Steve and The Scooter Scoop a little press. The “Mod Rod” cartoon art is available at Café Press as well.

Thanks Steve!

Adobe Illustrator CS3 review by “Real World Illustrator”’s Mordy Golding

Illustrator guru (and former Illustrator project manager) Mordy Golding on his excellent Adobe Illustrator blog “Real World Illustrator” has just posted a link to his Illustrator CS3 review at CreativePro.com. He touches on just the features he thinks are significant in the new release, and should easily whet one’s appetite to upgrade to the new vector goodness.

I cannot wait to get my hands on this and get a full review out there myself.

25 Reasons You Might Be A Hardcore Graphic/Web Designer [Link]

Fun list over at BittBox for all us designer/illustrator freaks out there. One of my faves:

23: You can’t go to a restaurant without secretly critiquing the menu design.

Be sure to browse around for some great tips and free stuff for Adobe Illustrator while you’re there.

Wacom Tablet: Scroll Click

Wacom Intuos3 6X11 Pen Tablet

Wacom has just updated their graphics tablet driver software for Macintosh and the release notes PDF tells us that a new feature has been introduced, “Scroll Click” (my nickname for it). This is an awesome new feature that allows the user to set a pen button to the “scroll click”, and then when pressing that button, you can drag the pen on the tablet to activate scrolling. In addition to this being very cool, it’s a feature that I suggested to the tech & PR departments a few weeks ago, I can’t help but assume this was implemented due to that request. I was initially given a not-so-encouraging response, basically because the Intuos line of tablets has the Touch Strips srcoll/zoom hardware touch-sensitive areas. Of course, their other tablets do not have these.

Adobe Illustrator CS3: The Feature I Am Looking Forward To Most

If you haven’t heard, Adobe announced the imminent relase of Creative Suite 3. Since I spend most of my time in Adobe Illustrator, obviously it’s the software package I am looking forward to most. To be honest I really haven’t dug into the fine details of all the new features in Illustrator CS3, and most of what I know I got from Mordy Golding’s video podcast on the new Illustrator CS3 features over at his Real World Illustrator blog. But there are a few I know about, and boy are they sounding cool. One, in particular, has been a recent pet peeve of mine that has finally been addressed.

Kuler: Handy, Addictive and Free Social Color Theme Creation Tool by Adobe

Adobe Kuler screenshot
Adobe has this new online tool for creating color themes, Kuler that is not only really useful, but fun (at least for us color geeks). You can save and share your color themes with other visitors, and even rate them. And for you OS X 10.4 people out there, be sure to snag the Kuler Dashboard Widget. There are also RSS feeds of Popular, Highest Rated and Newest themes and other cool goodies offered here. If you’ve ever used a digital color wheel before, this one is pretty similar. And really well done.
The real hook is browsing through the other color themes and being able to save and share them with like-minded others out there. You get the whole shebang: RGB, HEX, CMYK & LAB values as well as all sorts of models to choose from: Analagous, Complimentary, Triad etc. The Dashboard Widget even has a button to plop the HEX values to your Clipboard.

I’ve just started to play around with this myself, but there’s just about no learning curve, so get on over to Kuler and start Kulerin’!
