Illustrator Channel on Jaiku

Jaiku illustrator channel screenshotI just set up a Jaiku illustrator channel for Adobe Illustrator users and vector artists. If you aren’t familiar with Jaiku, it’s a chat-based social networking community similar to Twitter. Both are also referred to as “microblogs” in that the “posts” are limited to 140 characters. It’s designed for quick thoughts and comments.

Jaiku is a little more rich in features, allowing different sorts of feeds to be added. So far I have a del.icio.us illustrator feed and two Flickr photostreams added to get things rolling.

You can post and monitor Jaiku user and group chats either directly on the website, or via some free Mac & Windows client software. For Mac OS X there is the Juhu Jaiku software, and for Windows you can download the Jay-Q Jaiku software. Alternatively there is also a Jaiku Google Gadget, and for those into text messaging you can set up your mobile phone for Jaiku as well.

I am just getting into the whole Jaiku/Twitter thing myself, but so far it’s kind of cool. A great way to keep in touch with groups of people without being committed to a chat. I look forward to seeing some of you out there sign up and help get the Jaiku illustrator channel moving.
