Although I don’t yet own one, the Wacom Cintiq flat-screen graphics tablets are exceedingly drool-worthy and I will own one in the near future. Everytime I talk to a Cintiq user or read an artist’s blog raving about one it only makes the waiting more difficult.
For those unaware, the Cintiq is a fusion of Wacom’s phenomenal graphics tablets with a flat-screen monitor — allowing one to draw right on the screen. Awesome.
That waiting may be reduced, as Wacom has recently released new less expensive (and smaller) models of these amazing graphics tablets. The original is a 21″ model with a 4:3 aspect ratio (square-ish) and the new 20″ model gives the Cintiq line the widescreen treatment that Intuos3 line received recently. Also added is a smaller 12″ model which seems a bit more of a portable form factor. These new models both have a 16:10 aspect ratio.
The 21″ Wacom Cintique tablet is available at Amazon now, and the newer models have yet to appear in Amazon’s catalog along with the 12″ Cintiq graphics tablet and the 20″ Cintiq graphics tablet. They can also be purchased at the Wacom online store.
Next on my list is finding a local reseller so I can compare these in person.

A quick note - an email to Wacom customer support was extremely helpful - they provided info for the closest resellers to my ZIP code. Unfortunately for me there was nothing very close, but perhaps others out there might have better luck. I think I will be making a road trip in the near future…
