Yikes, just read over at MacMerc.com that one of Adobe’s guys posted a blog entry recently regarding some serious issues with InDesign, basically in all the dialog boxes. That means crashes for Save, Place, Open — doesn’t sound like something I would want to deal with. They did say this seems to be primarily with PowerPC based Macs, but that affects those of us still on a G4. These new InDesign bugs Adobe says they need Apple’s help to squash.
I have to say I have a friend who works with CS3 on 10.5 on a G5 Mac andif he had any issues I would have heard about them by now.
Still, another reason I am glad I have held off on jumping to Leopard, despite almost daily urges to do so. I think the timing of MacWorld in late January – hopefully announcing new MacPros – and Adobe’s scheduled Acrobat fix (turns out the previous issue with Acrobat was with InDesign & the PDF printer) will be the sweet spot for everything.
Having been a computer geek for quite some time, I have learned my lesson about 3 things: Backup, backup, backp; hold off on major software upgrades for a while – especially operating systems; and the best advice any computer user can get: buy more RAM.
Needless to say this situation heartily reaffirms number two.
