Disc golf is something I am a huge fan of, and I wanted to bring a bit of fun and cartoon attitude to the sport. Many of the shirts or designs I see available are very “hippie” based — a loose scribble, or tie-dye related artwork. Perhaps in some areas disc golf is popular with those sorts of folks, but all the courses I have played in the Ohio/Pennsylvania area (and I have played a lot of them) I have yet to see a hippie myself.

Typically the demographic is all over the charts, from your “Average Joe” to grandparents with grandkids, teenagers just goofing around to nuts like me who take it a bit more seriously. Disc golf is a great sport in that anyone can play as long as they can throw a Frisbee, the overwhelming majority of the courses around the United States (and the world) are free to play, and the equipment is very inexpensive. You can even use a regular ol’ catch Frisbee, no need to buy the specialized discs.

If you haven’t heard of — or yet played a round of — disc golf, I highly recommend giving it a go. Head over to Disc Golf Course Review for an extensive database of courses throughout the world, including player reviews of the courses, photos, upcoming events and tournaments and lots more. As I mentioned, there’s probably a free course near you, and it’s easy enough to bring your kids, parents, grandparents, wife, boyfriend — anyone can play this sport.

You may also want to check out the official Professional Disc Golf Association website, PDGA.com. Yes, there’s a professional competition-level to this sport and tournaments are taking place all the time, all over the globe.

Vector artists and Adobe Illustrator users – rejoice! You no longer have to toil away in obscurity. Let the world know where your heart lies.

OK, so I am a bit jealous that I didn’t come up with the idea of turning famous dead presidents into cartoon zombies! OK OK, I’m really jealous that I didn’t come up with the idea of cartoon zombie presidents.

How cool are these? Drawn in a very 1950’s EC horror comic/Jack Davis-esque style, featuring Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. And to make sure they offended the religious folk out there, you have Zombie Pope and Zombie Jesus as well.

I just posted this SCUBA dive flag t-shirt design up on Zazzle. I was going through some of my archives and had forgotten about this one. I came up with this after taking a camping trip to the Florida Keys (the Bahia Honda Key in particular) a few years ago.

The campsites are right on the beach (with electricity even!), and it’s one of the few areas in the world where snorkeling can be done right from the shore. The entire group brought snorkeling gear “just in case”, but we all found ourselves instant snorkeling enthusiasts from day one. From the outside, it seems kinda boring. When you are actually doing it, it’s inexplicably awesome. Since the creative gears are always crankin’, I ended up working up some sketches for t-shirt ideas and when this one popped up, I knew I had a winner. And then I promptly filed it away and lost track of it for three years!

For those of you not familiar with the dive flag, it technically a SCUBA tool, the red field with diagonal white stripe signifying a SCUBA diver is exploring somewhere underneath the floating beacon (it’s tethered to the diver). My twist was to use the wedge-shaped design of the SCUBA/snorkeling dive fins to create the effect of the dive flag design.

On a side note, I highly recommend taking a vacation down at the Bahia Honda Key. The campsites as mentioned are right no the ocean, and at the time we went the State Park only charged like $12 per person/per night for a campsite. They were clean and had plenty of privacy between campsites. Reservation are limited and book up very quickly. Everyone on the trip agreed it was one we all wanted to do again. Be sure to bring your suntan lotion and industrial strength bug repellent!

Starting today, my PSP Tubes licesning agreement with MyPSPTubes.com for pin-up art is now live with the availability to all you PSP tubers and MySpace graphics artistes of four initial sexy & cute devil girl pin-up illustrations.

The initial PSP tube cartoon illustrations feature an updated version of the cute cartoon pinup devil girl on my cartoon illustration portfolio site, as well as 3 additional devil girl pinup illustrations that have been in my personal stash.

To be honest, I had to do a bit of research when contacted by MyPSPTubes (Sticker Chick actually) for the licensing argreement. There’s a brief explanation of what PSP tubes are on their site, but the basic gist is that they are images available to artists who wish to create signature image banners for message board posts and MySpace graphics. The licensing allows the customer to have access to quality versions of artwork for use in their banner graphic creations. The cost is very reasonable as well at $2.00 per image, with bundles available as well.

There are some great artists working with MyPSPTubes, and it’s great to see my art up there with other very talented illustrators.

Stay tuned for more PSP tube art to be available shortly, including more devil girl pinups and some other fun cartoon pinups I have been sketching up lately.
