This cartoon illustration of Frankenstein's Monster was developed as part of a series of cartoon illustrations of all the classic horror movie monsters (Frankenstein's Monster, Mummy, Dracula, Werewolf and the Creature from the Black Lagoon). The original drawings were all sketched out and scanned into the computer final line art and shading was done as digital vector art in Adobe Illustrator.

Once the main artwork of the monster was completed, a background and border was added to reflect some of the elements from the mythology of the character. In this case, a border comprising of stitched lines, interspersed with a flower (the one the girl gave to the Monster at the end of the original film) was created. Croner elements of flaming torches represent the angry villagers who burned Frankenstien's Monster at the story's finalé.

This illustration was the first full piece in which I employed the use of Adobe Illustrator's powerful brushes. Line art in this illustration was done as simple Beziér paths, which were then enhanced with a tapered line brush to give the effect of a brush and ink illustration. Despite my initial enthusiasm over the Illustrator brushes, I have come to employ alternate methods to achieve the same effect. Illustrator's brushes still play a big part in my Illustrator palette, but mostly for other purposes.
