Search Prophecy |

This cartoon illustration of a fortune teller/gypsy with crystal ball was developed for a client's search engine website Search Prophecy. As I have worked extensively with this client on numerous past projects, I was given free reign to start developing concepts. I was immediately drawn to the idea of a fortune teller finding good search results being a great visual metaphor for a search engine. I suppose a "mind reader" might have worked as well, but the word "prophecy" gave me a direction towards the fortune teller aspect.
As the final artwork was intended for the web, I went for just the head & crystal ball to keep the artwork large and readable enough for a standard-sized website graphic. The art needed to read well, and read quickly as it would also be used as the main element in a set of banner ads devloped alongside the main cartoon character artwork.
Initial concept sketches for the art were drawn, and as the design began to take shape I worked up a finished rough of the character art and sent to the client for approval. Initial sketches are usually far more along the lines of the fith or tenth sketch, as I prefer to work through an idea to a fairly finiashed degree to give a client a solid idea of what I am envisioning. This sketch was approved by the cleint and then scanned and the vector art was created by hand in Adobe Illustrator.
